Memorable Manitobans: Isidore William Goresky (1902-1999)

Educator

Born at Barbivsti [now Brusnytsia], Ukraine on 25 November 1902, son of William Basil Goresky (1875-1937) and Victoria Eustafiewich? (c1884-?), he came to Canada with his family in 1906, following their father who immigrated in 1905. He grew up at the family homestead in Township 12 Range 2 East within the Rurual Municipality of Rockwood and took teacher training. A lifelong educator, he taught at Baskerville School (1919-1920, 1921, 1922-1924), Happy Thought School (1924-1925, Principal), and Willow Plain School (1925-1926), and later taught many years in Alberta.

While posted at Baskerville School in Rosa, he met local resident Anne Paley (1902-1993) and they married on 19 June 1921 in the Rural Municipality of Franklin. He had at least one child, Adelaide Elizabeth Goresky (1922-?). The family moved to Edmonton, Alberta, in the late 1920s and retired to White Rock, British Columbia in 1987.

He died at the Langley Memorial Hospital in Langley, British Columbia on 22 February 1999 and was buried in the Valley View Memorial Gardens at Surrey.
