Memorable Manitobans: Albert Edward “Ed” Golding (1915-1978)Community activist. Born at Brandon on 11 May 1915, son of Albert E. Golding (?-1949) and Jessie McGowan (c1892-1951), he moved to Transcona with his family in 1931 and worked successively for the Canadian National Railway, East End Community Club (of which he was a founding member and president for 21 years), and City of Winnipeg as manager of the Roland Michener Arena. He died on 1 June 1978 and was buried in the Transcona Cemetery. He is commemorated by the Ed Golding Memorial Arena and Ed Golding Bay in Winnipeg.
