Memorable Manitobans: John Archibald “Jack” Fergusson (1928-2025)

Community activist.

Born at Winnipeg on 11 November 1928, son of J. Fergusson, he worked for the Manitoba Telephone System. On 3 May 1952, he married Olive Patricia “Pat” McGeown (1928-2025) at the Kildonan United Church and they resided in West Kildonan, where they raised two daughters and three sons. An active Mason, he served as Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Manitoba (1989-1990), Grand Secretary (1990-1994), Most Wise Sovereign of Bethesda Chapter Rose Croix 18 Degree (1980), Honourary Inspector General 33 Degree (1982) of Scottish Rite, Provincial Grand Master (1998-2003), Provincial Grand Secretary (2008-2016) of the Royal Order of Scotland, and a member of the Ritualistic Unit of the Khartoum Shrine. He died at the Seven Oaks Hospital on 11 December 2025.
