Memorable Manitobans: Roy Melvyn Dunbar (1934-2003)

Businessman, municipal official.

Born at Neepawa on 7 October 1934, son of Henry Dunbar and Mary-Jane Edwards, he owned a clothing store in Carman from 1964 to 1979. He later worked for the Valley Leader newspaper, in real estate, and at the Heartland Business Development Centre in Portage la Prairie until his retirement. He served as a town councillor in Carman for three years. He also served as president/manager for the Carman Beaver Hockey Club, board member of the Boyne Lodge Senior Citizens Home, and chairperson of the Retail and Merchants Association. He died at Winkler. His funeral was held on 7 August 2003 and he was buried in the Greenwood Cemetery in Carman.
