War hero, pilot.
Born at Portage la Prairie on 12 January 1899, son of Jessie Gouin, he moved with his family to Edmonton, Alberta in 1909. At the outbreak of the First World War, he enlisted in the infantry with the Canadian Expeditionary Force, switching to the Royal Flying Corps on arrival in Europe. He was inducted into the Order of the British Empire (1935), the Order of Canada (1968), and Canada’s Aviation Hall of Fame (1974). He died on 2 August 1995.
