He served as President of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Manitoba (1988) and was made an Honorary Life Member (2002).

On 28 June 1958, he married Marion Irene Robinson (?-2005) at Dryden, Ontario and they had two sons. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Breezy Bend Country Club. He died at the Riverview Health Centre on 16 April 2025.
