Businessman.
Born at Toorof, Gomel, Belarus in 1876, son of Simon Chechik and Zissel Sluczak, he moved from Minsk, Russia to Winnipeg in 1904 and became engaged in the meat and grain business. He also founded the Winnipeg Cold Storage Company. On 15 May 1908, he married Bertha Blankstein (1887-1976) at Winnipeg and they had six children: Vera Chechik (1909-2001), Sylvia Sara Chechik (1910-1955), Gertrude “Gertie” Chechik (1911-1989), Mordecai Wolf “Max” Chechik (1913-2011), Maurice Manly Chechik (1914-1998), and Benjamin Moses “Ben” Chechik (1918-1997). He was a President of the Hebrew Sick Benefit Association and Beth Jacob Synagogue. He died at Montreal, Quebec on 12 March 1947 and was buried in the Vancouver Jewish Cemetery.
