Sydney Garrington Chambers

Cleric.
Born at Portsmouth, England on 29 April 1870, son of Major Frank Drysdale Chambers and Margaret Chambers, he was educated at the Thornton Heath grammar school. He came to Winnipeg and attended St. John’s College, receiving BA (1897) and Bachelor of Divinity (1901) degrees. Ordained a Deacon in 1907, he became a Priest in 1909. He was Curate (1907-1909) and Rector (1909-1912) of Christ Church at Winnipeg.
On 9 July 1901, he married Evelyn Augusta Willan (1876-?) at Winnipeg and they subsequently had two daughters: Phyllis Mary Chambers (1902-?) and Theodora Garrington Chambers (1909-?). The family lived at the Christ Church Rectory (285 Henry Avenue), Winnipeg. He was a member of the Canadian Club, Clef Club, and Sons of England. His recreations included cricket and music.
He died at the Ninette Sanatorium on 6 December 1912 and was buried in the St. John’s Cathedral Cemetery.
