Memorable Manitobans: Paul Marshall Campbell (1942-2023)

Cleric.

Born at Winnipeg on 1 August 1942, he was raised in the Elmwood neighbourhood. After receiving Arts and Theology degrees from the United College, in 1966 he was ordained as a minister in the United Church of Canada. He served congregations at Elkhorn United Church and Morden before spending a year in Oxford, England. He then served as Saskatchewan Conference Pastoral Relations Minister and later at Westminster United Church in Regina. He returned to Manitoba in 1975 to provide theological resources to Indigenous men at Norway House. He was at Regents Park United Church (1985-1997) then was the first director of the IPCO national program for community-based ordination. He served on the boards of the Winnipeg Halfway Homes and Oak Table Ministry. He received an honorary doctorate from St. Andrew's College in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He died at the Grace Hospital on 5 July 2023.
