Memorable Manitobans: William Herman Brett (1887-1964)Businessman. Born at Alliston, Ontario on 22 October 1887, son of William Brett and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Scott (1855-1943), and brother of Norman Ewart Brett, he accompanied his family to the Dugald area in 1889. He farmed near Birds Hill and Stonewall and was a founder and President of the Brett Manufacturing Company Limited (1912-1922), Pioneer Hatchery, and Brett-Young Limited. He was also President of the Canadian Seed Growers Association (?-?), Terminal Curling Club (1947-1948), Manitoba Curling Association (1957-1958, Honourary Life Member 1958), and was a member of the Cosmopolitan Club, Elmhurst Golf Club, Granite Curling Club, and St. Stephen’s Broadway United Church. On 26 June 1918, he married Dorothy Dawson Keenleyside (1896-1951) at Winnipeg and had a daughter, Gloria Brett.
