Memorable Manitobans: George Sydney Blow (1909-1994)

Policeman.

Born at Lincoln, England on 30 January 1909, he came to Canada with his family in 1911 and settled in north Winnipeg where he received his education. He married Mina Jones on 19 October 1932. They had one son. He joined the Winnipeg Police Department in December 1930 and rose through the ranks until he was appointed Chief of Police in December 1965. He was a life member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, a member of the Central YMCA and the Carleton Club. He retired from police work in May 1970. He died at Winnipeg on 6 February 1994.
