Memorable Manitobans: Mary Jane Bletcher (1913-1982)

Journalist.

Born at Winnipeg on 15 May 1913, daughter of Margaret Adabelle Hanna (1883-1978) and Henry Ernest Bletcher, her career in journalism included service with the federal government, feature writing for the Winnipeg Free Press and Winnipeg Tribune, and freelancing. She was a long-time member of the Winnipeg Press Club. She died unmarried at her Winnipeg home, 194 Chestnut Street, in June 1982 and was buried with her family in the Kildonan Presbyterian Cemetery.
