Memorable Manitobans: Ethol Viola Gilbert Bieber (1920-1988)Swimmer. She won her first swimming championship when she was fourteen and in the next year, set the Canadian Junior Record for the 220. She competed on five championship relay teams, but was best known as a long distance swimmer, winning the Wrigley Mile five times and the Western Canada Mile three times.
