Lawyer, deltiologist.
Born in Winnipeg on 29 August 1931, elder of two sons of restauranteur Oscar Berman (1904-1985) and Sophie Gosman (1904-1972), the family lived at 172 Anderson Street. He graduated from St. John's Technical High School then received a law degree from the University of Manitoba in 1956. Within three years, he had moved to Toronto, Ontario where he spent 33 years working for TransCanada Pipelines until retirement in August 1990.
In 1959, he married Ruth Dankevy (1933-2020) at Toronto and they had a daughter and a son. He is said to have developed an interest in postcards when he accompanied a friend into an antiques store and found one with a view of his childhood street which showed his house. He died at Toronto, Ontario on 5 April 1992. After his wife's death, his family donated his collection of over 5,000 postcards to the City of Winnipeg. They have been digitized and are available online as the Martin Berman Postcard Collection.
