Memorable Manitobans: Matthew Baker (1939-2004)

Municipal official.

Born at Ashern on 25 February 1939, son of Ralph and Lizzie Baker, he went to school in Ashern and at Tec-Voc in Winnipeg. He worked in the tire industry in Stonewall and Ashern until he retired in 2004. He served as councillor with the Rural Municipality of Siglunes. He was also active in the Ashern volunteer fire department and served as Fire Chief for many years. He died at Winnipeg on 26 May 2004.
