Memorable Manitobans: Robert Pollock Ackland (1890-1970)

Merchant.

Born at Emerson on 21 October 1890, son of James William Ackland and Margaret Maxwell Pollock (1867-1940), he came to Winnipeg with his parents several weeks later. He worked in the family firm of D. Ackland and Son until his retirement in November 1949. He was married twice, first on 10 August 1929 to Mabel Henrietta Snary (1894-1936) at Winnipeg, and second to Agnes Beatrice Skinner (1895-1989). He was a member of the AF & AM (Ionic Lodge No. 25), St. Georges Anglican Church, Fellowship Club, and Carleton Club. He died at Winnipeg on 23 October 1970 and was buried in the Brookside Cemetery.
