Historic Sites of Manitoba: Telephone Repeater Station (RM of Grey)

This small brick building sits along Manitoba Highway #2 between Elm Creek and Fannystelle, in the Rural Municipality of Grey. It is almost exactly 40 miles away from Telecommunications Building #2 and 80 miles from Telecommunications Building #1, in a nearly straight line. Its electrical service has been disconnected and the building appears abandoned. Its roof has been replaced and a window has been cut into the south side. During the 1950s, it was used to house “J” Carrier Repeaters, a component of the Trans-Canada Telecommunications System. Constructed around 1952, the equipment inside the building was owned and operated by MTS.
