This 1½-storey wood frame and wood plank siding, American Foursquare Cottage-style house is on Fort Street in Winnipeg. Measuring 22 feet by 36 feet, it was built in 1902 by owner/contractor Anton “Anthony” Swanson at a cost of about $1,200. Over the next seven decades into the 1970s, it remained a single-family residence.
In the 1980s, the house was the centre of the city’s punk music community. In the late 1980s and through the 1990s, it provided office space for an archaeological consulting company. Formerly a municipally-designated historic building, it was de-listed in 2010. At the time 2019 and 2023 site visits, the house was relatively unmodified from its original appearance.
