A Methodist church in the village of Oakland, in the Rural Municipality of Portage la Prairie, opened in 1890. It became Oakland United Church in 1924.

In 1961, a new building was constructed at this site and named Murray United Church for early minister Samuel Crothers Murray. The building used refurbished pews from the three churches that contributed to it: Oakland United Church, Prospect United Church, and Jackson United Church. In 1970, congregants from the former Longburn United Church and Macdonald United Church came here too. The church operated as a three-point charge with High Bluff United Church and Poplar Point United Church until 2004 when it closed. The building was renovated into a private residence. A monument across the road, by a community hall, commemorates the congregations that formed Murray United Church.

Clerics

Among the clerics of Oakland United Church were Samuel Crothers Murray (1924-1928), Ivan Glenn Fulford (1954-?), and I. Marguerite Miller (1961-?).
