Historic Sites of Manitoba: Kenville United Church (Kenville, Municipality of Swan Valley West)Link to: The first Methodist services in the Kenville area, in what is now the Municipality of Swan Valley West, were held in a local home and later in the Square Plains School, and still later in the Davidson School. With the arrival of a railway to the area in 1905, the village of Kenville began to develop and Presbyterian and Methodist congregations met in a boarding house then the Kenville School. A Methodist church and parsonage were built with funds contributed by A. J. Cotton and Rev. W. J. Lobb. The opening ceremony was held on 24 November 1912. A shortage of clerics in 1918 led to formation of a local union between Presbyterian and Methodist congregations that persisted until the formal union across Canada in 1925. The Kenville United Church amalgamated officially with the Benito United Church in 1959 although they were part of a three-way charge with Durban United Church as of 1955. Clerics
