Historic Sites of Manitoba: Elmhurst Golf and Country Club (23113 Garven Road, RM of Springfield)

Established as an 18-hole golf course in the winter between 1913 and 1914 by executives of the T. Eaton Company, the Elmhurst Golf and Country Club, in the Rural Municipality of Springfield, was cleared in 1915 and was seeded in 1916. It opened for play later that year using temporary greens.

By August 1917, sixteen out of the eighteen greens had been completed and the rest had been finished later that year. In 1918, a new clubhouse was designed by Winnipeg architects James Chisholm and Colin Campbell Chisholm and built by the construction firm of Hazelton and Walin. The course and clubhouse opened officially on 5 August 1918.
