Historic Sites of Manitoba: Sowry School / Boultonville School No. 1464 (RM of Thompson)

Known originally as the Sowry School District when it was established in July 1908, it was renamed Boultonville sometime before 1917, allegedly a combination of the names of two local residents: Charles Boulton and Peter Sommerville. A one-room schoolhouse was built at SE1-4-7W in the Rural Municipality of Thompson, on land provided by Boulton, at a cost of $1100. The school closed permanently in 1948, after which the building was used as a granary. The district was dissolved in 1958 and its area was divided between Barclay School District, Opawaka School District, and Miami Consolidated School District.

Among the teachers who worked at Boultonville School through the years were Gertrude Sweet (1909), Jean Wilkie (1910), Mary Anderson (1912), Annie Falconer (1912-1913), Cora Switzer (1913), Daisy Borthwick (1914), Elma Herrall (1914-1915), V. Churchill (1916), Ethel Sexsmith (1917), Margaret Marshall (1918), Bessie Shaver (1920), Pansy Sweet (1920), Florence M. Spencer (1921), Mary Cooks (1921), Margaret Finnie (1922), Henrietta Kelly (1922-1925), Lilly Reichert (1926-1928), Grace McNabb (1928-1929), Agnes Cumberland (1930), Elsie Smith (1930-1936), Phyllis Wagner (1936-1938), Jacob Penner (1939), Elva Airth (1939-1941), Helen Hildebrand (1941-1942), Phyllis Dudgeon (1942-1944), and Eva Dauphinais (1944-1945).
