Anton Zienkiewicz

Labour activist.
Born at Fritzlar, Germany on 7 July 1947, son of Henry Peter Zienkiewicz (1921-1988 ) and Eva Rubi (1925-1998), he immigrated to Canada with his family in 1954 and grew up in Winnipeg, living and going to school in the city's North End. After working for Winnipeg Hydro, he joined Flyer Industries (later New Flyer Industries) as a production electrician in 1974, where he spent 39 years while becoming an active union representative.
He served as National Vice-President of the Canadian Association of Industrial, Mechanical and Allied Workers (CAIMAW) before the union merged with the Canadian Auto Workers, which would go on to merge with Unifor. He volunteered with organizations including Safe Workers of Tomorrow. He also served on the Manitoba Council on Aging and held leadership positions within the Manitoba New Democratic Party. Following his retirement in 2013, he served as Chair of the Unifor Retired Workers Regional Council of Manitoba.
Awards received included the Manitoba Federation of Labour's Dick Martin Award and the Winnipeg Labour Council's Bruce McKay Solidarity Award.
He died at Winnipeg on 4 June 2026.
