Memorable Manitobans: Thelma Alma Wynne (1904-1992)Volunteer worker. Born in Toronto, Ontario in 1904, she moved to Winnipeg with her parents at a young age. An active layperson in the Anglican Church, Wynne was awarded the Order of Rupert’s Land in 1988. Her major accomplishment was the foundation of the layette program of St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, which helped new mothers in need throughout the province. The program was eventually extended throughout the Rupert’s Land diocese and has been renamed the Thelma Wynne Project in honour of its founder.
