Memorable Manitobans: Donald Williamson (c1883-1960)

Fireman.

Born in Scotland, he came to Canada in 1907 and joined the Winnipeg Fire Department soon after, serving for 37 years and retiring as District Chief. He was seriously injured in the Winnipeg Theatre fire in 1926 and again in a box factory fire in 1937. He died at Vancouver, British Columbia on 22 May 1960 and was buried in Ocean View Cemetery. All the pallbearers were former Winnipeg firemen living at Vancouver.
