Memorable Manitobans: Patricia Marie “Pat” Walker (1939-2021)

Archaeologist.

Born at Springfield, Illinois in 1939, daughter of A. Catherine Baggs and Lyndal Baumgardner, she attended Knox College at Galesburg, Illinois where she met her first husband, John M. Badertscher. They lived at several places in the United States. In 1971, they arrived in Winnipeg with their three children when Badertscher joined the staff of the University of Winnipeg. She studied archaeology at the University of Manitoba then, in the 1980s, worked at the Historic Resources Branch of the Manitoba government. There, she met second husband, Peter Oliver Walker. She died at Winnipeg on 19 January 2021.
