Memorable Manitobans: Clarence S. Vance (1887-?)Farmer. Born in Hastings County, ONtario on 18 May 1887, son of John Vance and Catherine Montgomery, the family came to Manitoba in 1891 and settled on a farm in Township 11, Range 18 near Brandon. He was educated at the Grand Valley country school, quitting school at the age of 17 to work on the family farm. He took over the farm upon his father’s retirement in 1911. On 31 January 1911, he married Maggie McClure at Melita, Manitoba. They had a son, John Neil Vance. The family attended the Presbyterian Church. Sources:The Story of Manitoba by F. H.
