Memorable Manitobans: John G. Taubensee (1930-2009)

Building contractor.

Born in Germany on 7 March 1930, son of John Taubensee (1903-1995) and Mary Schoenrath (1907-1965), he came with his family to Canada later that year and settled at Swan River where his father worked as a building contractor. In 1955, he received a degree in Architecture from the University of Manitoba and moved to Flin Flon where, together with his father, he founded the Taubensee Construction Company. They moved the company to Winnipeg in 1960 and, over the course of years, built over 100 schools and other public buildings around the city and surrounding towns.
