Memorable Manitobans: Stuart Styan (1921-2004)

Community activist.

Born at Winnipeg in 1921, son of Sarah Dolphin (1890-1980) and Sydney Daniel Styan (1890-1964), he served in the Royal Canadian Navy before a lengthy career with Community Hotels Limited and Labatts Breweries. He served as President of the Winnipeg Executive Association and the Hotel Association of Canada. He was married to Jean Frances Allan (1921-2018) for 49 years and they had one child. As a member of Niakwa Country Club and St. Boniface Golf Club (President), he enjoyed over 50 years of golfing and was a member of the Granite Curling Club, Masons, Khartum Shriners, and Rotary Club of West Winnipeg. He died at Winnipeg on 13 October 2004.
