Memorable Manitobans: Pierre St. Germain (c1790-c1870)Fur trader. A voyageur of mixed Chipewyan and French Canadian descent, born around 1790, he worked for nine years with the North West Company, then spent 29 months as an interpreter for the First Franklin Expedition to northern Canada (1819-1822). His final 12 years of employment were with the Hudson's Bay Company after which he retired to the Red River Settlement in September 1834. In 1841, he went with the James Sinclair party to homestead in the Cowlitz River valley in Washington state, dying there around 1870. See also:
