Memorable Manitobans: Inez Adrienne Hill Smith (1892-1988)Educator. Born at Langton, Ontario on 4 April 1892, eldest of three children of Martha McDowell (1865-?) and Robert Knowles Hill (1864-1961), she came to Manitoba and served as the Principal of Fairfax School (1915-1918) and Lauder School (1918-1919). She later returned to Ontario and married First World War veteran Arnold Smith (1892-1932) and they had three children. After her husband’s early death due to complications from surgery, she returned to teaching to support her family. She died in 1988.
