Memorable Manitobans: Daniel Edward “Dan” Smith (c1924-2009)Community activist. He manned a ticket kiosk at the Portage and Main Concourse until his retirement in 1982, when he became well known among the disabled community as a volunteer on a full-time basis for the Manitoba League of Persons With Disabilities and the Independent Living Resource Centre. His efforts were recognized when he became a recipient of Canada Volunteer Award Certificate of Merit in 1995 and the National Access Awareness Provincial Achievement Award in 1997.
