Memorable Manitobans: William Flowers Sirett (1879-1971)Veterinarian. Born in the Muskoka district of Ontario in 1879, he moved with his parents William F. Sirett and Margaret Symington (1854-1938) to Mentmore in 1881. He received a diploma in agriculture from the University of Wisconsin, subsequently attending the veterinary college in Ontario, which granted him a DVM. Sirett began his veterinary practice in 1911 at Minnedosa, extending it far into the surrounding territory by model T and horse. He retired 50 years later. He was active in local government, serving 20 years on town council and two years as Mayor of Minnedosa. He was a member of the Board of Stewards of the United Church.
