Memorable Manitobans: Kewal Singh (1939-2021)
Community activist.
Born at Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan on 2 March 1939, one of eight children of Thara Singh and Bhagwant Kaur, he came to Winnipeg where he was a founding member of the Khalsa Diwan Society and served as its Secretary for the Gurdwara for many years. In recognition of his service in helping Sikh and non-Sikh Canadians to understand each other, he received a 125th Anniversary of Canadian Confederation Medal (1992) and a Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal (2002). He died at Winnipeg on 27 February 2021.
