Memorable Manitobans: Joseph “Joe” Sergeant (1918-2002)Airline worker, community volunteer. Born at Sweveghem, Belgium on 8 June 1918, he immigrated with his parents to Canada and settled in St. Boniface in 1930. He worked in Air Canada for 33 years, also serving in the RCAF during the war. Dedicated to the Belgian community, he served as Director of the Belgian Credit Union for over forty years. He was also a member of the St. Sebastian Archery Club and a life-long member and former President of the Belgian Club, as well as being the President of the Belgian Veterans Association, Branch #107.
