Allen C. Roberts

Surveyor.
Born at Auckland, New Zealand on 16 December 1922, he joined the New Zealand armed services in 1941. After training as a navigator in Winnipeg, and spending a year in England, he returned to New Zealand and served a four-year apprenticeship in surveying. In May 1951, after receiving membership in the New Zealand Institute of Surveying, he returned to Canada where he joined the staff of the Surveys Branch of the Department of Natural Resources in August 1951. He received a commission as a Manitoba Land Surveyor in April 1953.
After conducting field surveys around Manitoba, including the clarification of the boundary between the province and the North West Territories during the winters of 1958-1959 and 1959-1960. He served as Senior Surveyor (1962-1965), Assistant Director of Surveys (1965-1969), and Director of Surveys (1969-1983). In December 1969, he was appointed interprovincial Boundary Commissioner to represent Manitoba on all matters relating to provincial boundaries. He was appointed a member of the Canadian Permanent Committee on Geographical Names in December 1969. He was Secretary-Treasurer (1962-1963) and President (1965) of the Association of Manitoba Land Surveyors.
In 1946, he married Eileen MacGregor (?-?) of Winnipeg in New Zealand. They had a daughter and three sons.
