Memorable Manitobans: Margaret George RiochUniversity Research Fellow in Medicine. Born at Kenora, Ontario. Daughter of George M. Rioch and Clementina Paterson. Was educated at Kenora Public and High Schools and at Manitoba University. Scotch ancestry; family came to Canada from Montrose, Scotland; father’s people settled in Hamilton; mother’s people at Elora; father came to Rat Portage (Kenora), in 1891; in the jewellery business; inspector of watches for the Canadian Pacific Railway. Dr. Rioch graduated in 1924. Was the winner of the Ross Medal in Obstetrics and Paediatrics; won the University Medal for aggregate in fifth year; won the Chown prize in Medical Surgery; honorable mention for surgery. After graduation was interned in the General Hospital for nineteen months; appointed to present position, 1 January 1925. Member, Professional and Business Women’s Club. Member of the University Alumni. Member, Manitoba Medical Association. Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada. Recreation: Boating. Residence, 824 Dorchester Avenue, Winnipeg.
