Born in Ontario on 16 September 1863, he lived in Duro County until 1891 when he moved to Poplar Point. He farmed there and later near Woodlands for 13 years then moved to Winnipeg where he worked as a building contractor for many years.
He and wife Margaret Darling (1869-1926) had six children: Bertie Garfield Reid (1890-1908), Elmer Henry Reid (1892-1980), Richard Stanley Reid (1894-1942), Amy Alma May Reid (1897-1978, wife of Jack McIlroy), Stella Pearl Reid (1898-1971, wife of John Pearre), and Hazel Edna Reid (1900-1970, wife of Walter Craig). He moved to Minaki, Ontario in 1936. He died in a fire at his Minaki residence on 19 February 1938 and was buried in the Elmwood Cemetery.
