Memorable Manitobans: Elsa Sawatsky Redekopp (1922-1992)Musician, author. Born in Russia, she came with her family to Canada in 1923, settling in Gnadenthal, Manitoba. An active musician, she played the viola in the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and founded the Holiday String Quartet. She also wrote several children’s books, including Wish and Wonder: A Manitoba Village Childhood (1982) and Dream and Wonder: A Child’s View of Canadian Village Life (1986).
