Merchant, municipal official, community activist.
Born at Sifton on 17 April 1928 as one of five children of Eva “Effie” Rolla (1902-1987) and William “Bill” Perepeluk (1899-1977), he grew up at Rorketon, where his parents operated Central Meat and Grocery. In 1951, he married schoolteacher Amy Louise Cotton (1920-2001) and they went on to have three children. The Perepeluks’ grocery store business eventually expanded as a general store to the new mining community of Lynn Lake, and he and his family moved there to manage the store for the next 36 years.
He served two terms as Mayor of Lynn Lake (1975-1977, 1980-1983), devoting his time to providing a better community for its residents, including improving the highway into the town and television services. He was also a long-term, active member of several committees: the Lynn Lake Chamber of Commerce, Lynn Lake Hospital Board, the Town’s Fire and Ambulance Departments, NorMan Regional Recreational Facilities, Lion's Club, and the Eastern Star and Masonic Lodge. He also helped organize the annual Red Cross Blitz blood drive and served on the committee that organized the 1995 Lynn Lake Reunion.
For a few years, he could be found every Tuesday night printing The Northern Breeze local newspaper. He annually presented Penmanship Awards at school, an area of education he was particularly interested in because he wanted the young people he hired at the store to write clearly so he could read their notes. In the 1969 and 1973 provincial general elections, he was the Liberal party candidate in the Churchill Electoral District.
His family described him as having been, at different points in his life, a teacher, grocer, bowler, taxpayer, curler, cook, pilot, jack-of-all-trades, fisherman, window-washer, photographer, golfer, and cribbage player.
He died at Winnipeg on 13 April 2012 and was buried in the Glen Eden Memorial Gardens.
