Architect, community activist.
Born at Richmond, British Columbia on 23 July 1931, son of Otokichi and Midori Osaka, his family was interned during the Second World War. After the war, he attended McGill University in Montreal but later transferred to the University of Manitoba, receiving Bachelor of Architecture (1957) and Master of Architecture (1958) degrees. He completed two years of doctoral studies in Civic Design at the University of Tokyo (1959-1961).
Returning to Winnipeg, in 1968 he became a founding partner in the firm of IKOY Partnership Architecture, working there until 1978 on designs of apartment blocks, townhouses, commercial buildings, schools, colleges, and industrial buildings. In 1978, he formed his own architectural firm Stan H. Osaka Architect. From 1988 to 1997, he was University Architect and Campus Planner for the University of Manitoba.
In 1962, he met Georgia Misuzu Morishita (1941-1993) and they married at Winnipeg on 12 June 1965. They had a son, Robert Hideo Osaka (1969-1985). He served on several community boards, including the St. Boniface St. Vital Rotary Club (President), Buddhist Churches of Canada (Treasurer), and St. Vital Curling Club (President, 1981-1982).
He died at his Winnipeg home on 19 July 2015.
