Memorable Manitobans: Edward Clarence Nepinak (1949-2022)Indigenous elder. Born at Camperville on 12 February 1949, a member of the Pine Creek First Nation, he was a program manager for Health Canada for 27 years until retirement in 2009. Active in promoting Anishinaabe language and culture, he was involved in many community groups, including Thunderbird House, Canadian Museum for Human Rights, Winnipeg Folk Festival, Festival du Voyageur, Kidsfest, and Manitoba Historical Society. In recognition of his community service, he received a Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal (2002) and Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal (2012), and he was inducted into the Order of Manitoba (2019). He and wife Barbara Anne Nepinak had four children and two adopted children. He died at Winnipeg on 2 November 2022.
