Memorable Manitobans: John Albert Mount (1857-1947)

Contractor, plumber.

Born in England on 10 August 1857, he immigrated to Canada in 1884 and settled at Toronto, Ontario and later moved to Winnipeg where he worked as a plumber and building contractor along with his sons.

He and wife Mary Mount (1863-1928) had five children: Charles Frederick Mount (1883-1938, husband of Edith Maude Wheeler), Albert Joseph “Joe” Mount (1884-1965), John Mount (husband of Violet ?), Gladys Helen Mount (wife of Francis Grant Marshall), and Doris Evelyn Mount (wife of Ralph Edward Martin). The family lived at 61 McAdam Avenue.

He died at his Winnipeg home, Suite 3 Mount Block, on 10 July 1947 and was buried in the Elmwood Cemetery.
