Memorable Manitobans: John A. Moorhouse (?-2013)

Physician, educator.

In 1950, he received a medical degree from the University of Manitoba Medical School. After completing his residency, he spent two years at the University of Illinois followed by two years at Ann Arbor where he served as a research fellow in Endocrinology and Metabolism. Upon his return to Winnipeg, he established and served as the head of the Section of Endocrinology in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Manitoba. He developed the Endocrine and Metabolism Laboratory and served as its Director for 15 years. He was integral in the establishment of the Diabetes Education Centre and became its Director in 1966. He retired from the university in 1991 but maintained his private practice until 2005. He died at Winnipeg on 16 August 2013.
