Businessman.
Born at Winnipeg on 8 October 1929 to Gertrude Margaret Mayer (1907-2000) and William Middlestead (1899-1970), he joined Investors Syndicate Limited in 1951 where he enjoyed a career that spanned 38 years, retiring as Vice President and Comptroller. He remained active in the Winnipeg business community, serving as President of the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce (1989-1990), which took him to the Far East to cultivate business opportunities for the city.
With his first wife, Barbara Anne Springett (1931-2025), he had three sons. In the earlier years they spent summers with the family at Victoria Beach and also at his grandparents' farm in the Interlake, where he taught his children to hunt and fish, as well as showing them the value of hard work. Later, the family enjoyed summers at the cottage at Spruce Sands, north of Gimli. He loved to travel, especially in his retirement years, with his second wife, Joyce Corinne Jones Hebert (1929-2024). He was involved in various local organizations, sitting on the Boards of the Riverview Health Centre and Red River Community College, as well as on the Appeals Board of the Workers Compensation Board for 11 years. He was also active in Junior Achievement.
He died at Winnipeg on 20 October 2010.
