Born at Aberfeldy, Scotland on 18 February 1880, son of Peter McDiarmid (1857-1915) and Elizabeth Stewart (1856-1888), he came to Canada with his family in 1887 and settled on a farm near Baie St. Paul. He worked as a building contractor in and around Winnipeg until retirement. He lived at 785 South Drive in Fort Garry with his brother Charles until near the end of his life when he moved to the Conquist Nursing Home. He died unmarried at Winnipeg on 25 July 1971 and was buried with his parents in the Poplar Point Cemetery.
