Memorable Manitobans: William Sheppard May (1907-1978)Swine breeder. Born at Dundee, Scotland in 1907, he emigrated to Canada in 1926 to farm in the Strathclair district. He specialized in purebred Yorkshire swine. He was also an elite seed grower. He served as President of the Manitoba Swine Breeders on several occasions, as well as on the board of directors of the Provincial Exhibition and Royal Manitoba Winter Fair. He was active in his community, with the United Church, Strathclair Consumer Co-op, and Strathclair Masonic Lodge. In 1987, he was inducted posthumously into the Manitoba Agricultural Hall of Fame.
