Memorable Manitobans: Alexander Lawrence (c1847-1899)

Born in Kinross-shire, Scotland and educated in Scotland and England, he emigrated to Canada. On 22 January 1880, he married Margaret Bond of Oxford County, Ontario. He took up a farm in southern Manitoba before being acclaimed to the Manitoba Legislature in 1888. He was later appointed customs officer at Gretna. He died there on 4 August 1899.
