Alexander Lawrence

Farmer, customs officer, MLA (1888-1892).
Born in Kinross-shire, Scotland in May 1846 and educated in Scotland and England, he emigrated to Canada. On 22 January 1880, he married Margaret Bond (1857-1924) of Oxford County, Ontario and they had two children: William David Lawrence and Helen D. “Nellie” Lawrence (1882-?).
Sometime after 1882, he took up a farm in southern Manitoba before being acclaimed to the Manitoba Legislature in 1888. He did not seek re-election at the 1892 general election. He was later appointed a customs officer at Gretna.
He died at Gretna on 4 August 1899 and was buried in the Morden Hillside Cemetery.
