Memorable Manitobans: Omer Lavallee (1925-1992)

Archivist, historian.

He was Corporate Archivist of Canadian Pacific Railway in Montreal. He was well versed in railway history and author of several books on railways, including Narrow Gauge Railways of Canada (1972) and Van Horne's Road: An Illustrated Account of the Construction and First Years of Operation of the Canadian Pacific Transcontinental Railway (1974). He wrote numerous articles and brochures on railway topics and edited Canadian Rail magazine for several years. In 1989, he was named a Member of the Order of Canada.
