Memorable Manitobans: Roman Michael Korol (1920-2001)

Born at Lviv, Ukraine on 1 November 1920, he completed his high school education at Lviv then studied dentistry at the University of Lviv until the outbreak of the Second World War. After a period of internment at the Dachau Concentration Camp, he immigrated to Canada and settled in Winnipeg in 1948. He found work as a Linotype operator at The Canadian Farmer newspaper. He later became the editor of the Ukrainian Voice weekly newspaper, retiring from the position in 1985 after 37 years of service. He died on 29 September 2001.
